Mark your calendars for November 5, 2021 for our upcoming Founders Day Challenge in support of student scholarship.
Founders Day is recognized each year on November 5 – the date a letter was written by Institute founder Stephen Van Rensselaer announcing the formation of the Rensselaer School, where he declared his intent to educate students “in the application of science to the common purposes of life.”
With that letter, the school that is known today as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – a world-class technological research university with global research and global impact – was born. This year, we are commemorating Founders Day with a 24-hour day of giving back in support of key Institute initiatives.
The goal of this 24-hour special giving day is to encourage support of the Annual Fund, scholarship, COVID-19 testing, fraternity and sorority funds, and undergraduate and graduate student relief funds. These are key initiatives that are critical to our ongoing efforts in supporting our students.
A featured highlight of this year’s event is a donor challenge from Barbara and Michael Halat ’73, Ph.D. Mike is president of Omega Biologicals in Bozeman, Montana, a graduate of the School of Science and chemistry major, as well as a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. Barbara and Mike are dedicated and longtime advocates for the Institute through their consistent generosity and support of the Rensselaer Annual Fund, School of Science, and scholarship for more than 37 years.
Barbara and Mike are encouraging Rensselaer alumni, alumnae, parents, faculty, and staff to support student scholarship through the Barbara and Michael Halat ’73, Ph.D. Founder’s Day Challenge – a challenge to help us reach our event’s overall goal of 500 donations from our community within 24 hours. They hope their support of scholarship will inspire others to participate in this important initiative on November 5 in honor of our founding.
Special limited-edition merchandise will also be available as part of the Founders Day Pop-Up Shop. Check back soon for more information!
